The Environment of Care as it Relates to Joint Commission, CMS and DOH 
What's Hot for 2008 and beyond. Major changes in focus plus the addition of an additional surveyor (Life Safety Specialist) have made the Environment of Care portion of the survey process more detailed. Thomas Salamone - AKF Group LLC

Director of Environment of Care Compliance 

Thomas Salamone is responsible for the overall management, coordination

and administration of the Healthcare Environment of Care Compliance

program at AKF. He has almost 30 years of experience in helping

hospital, nursing home and ambulatory care facility clients prepare and

stay ready for the survey accreditation process related to CMS, Joint

Commission, DOH and OSHA. The program addresses safety, security,

hazardous materials and waste, emergency management, life and fire

He has authored numerous loss prevention, environment of care, fire prevention and safety inspection manuals. He has been a keynote speaker at many conferences and seminars, both at the local and national levels. In addition, he is affiliated with and holds or has held top positions with the Society of Fire Protection Engineering (SFPE), the National Fire Protection Association (and has been elected as a member of the Healthcare executive board, the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Hospital's Fire Marshal Association, the American Society for Healthcare Engineers, to mention a few organizations.
